Why Self-Care Isn't Selfish: A Letter to Every Woman Who Puts Herself Last

There is something I have realised over the years: as women, we are often the first to care for everyone else and the last to care for ourselves.

We pour into our families, our children, our homes, our work and our communities. We remember everyone's appointments, everyone's favourite meals, everyone's worries and everyone's needs.

And somewhere along the way, we forget ourselves.

For many women, self-care feels like a luxury. Something we will prioritise when life calms down. When the children are older. When work becomes less busy. When everyone else is okay.

But if you're reading this, perhaps you already know the truth:

Life rarely slows down.

And if we continue waiting for the perfect moment to look after ourselves, that moment may never come.

Why Naya Self Care Exists

Although our blog may be new, Naya Self Care certainly isn't.

We've been here since 2020, and over the years, we have had the privilege of supporting more than 4,000 women across the UK on their own wellness journeys.

But Naya Self Care didn't begin with a business plan.

It began with my own struggle.

After my second child, I was determined to feel like myself again. I went to the gym, went swimming and changed what I ate. Despite my efforts, progress was slow and frustrating.

During my third pregnancy, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Like so many women, I found myself trying to navigate motherhood, health concerns and the pressures of everyday life whilst quietly struggling in the background.

Being a woman myself, I understand how easily we can neglect our own needs.

I know what it feels like to put yourself at the bottom of the list.

I know the exhaustion.

I know the frustration.

I know the guilt.

But I also know the joy that comes when you begin prioritising yourself again.

And when I experienced positive changes in my own wellbeing, I wanted other women to experience that feeling too.

That is how Naya Self Care was born.

Self-Care Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

One of the biggest misconceptions about self-care is that it needs to be expensive, time-consuming or elaborate.

It doesn't.

Self-care can be found in the small, everyday moments.

It can be:

  • Taking a quiet walk before the rest of the house wakes up.
  • Drinking enough water throughout the day.
  • Preparing nourishing meals.
  • Taking ten minutes to sit with a warm cup of tea.
  • Going to bed a little earlier.
  • Saying "no" without guilt.
  • Choosing yourself, even in small ways.

These seemingly simple habits can have a powerful impact over time.

Because self-care isn't about perfection.

It's about consistency.

You Cannot Pour From An Empty Cup

So many women carry the weight of everyone around them.

But constantly giving without replenishing yourself eventually takes its toll.

When we neglect ourselves, we often begin to feel:

  • Tired and overwhelmed.
  • Disconnected from who we are.
  • Less confident.
  • Emotionally drained.
  • Stuck in survival mode.

Looking after yourself isn't selfish.

It is necessary.

Because when you feel better, everyone around you benefits too.

A healthier, happier and more energised woman creates a healthier, happier home.

Creating Daily Rituals That Support You

At Naya Self Care, we believe that wellness doesn't need to feel overwhelming.

We believe in simple daily rituals that fit into real life.

For me, one of those rituals became KAWA.

Created initially for myself using herbs and spices trusted in my family and culture for generations, KAWA soon became part of my everyday routine. Over time, family and friends began asking what I had done, and before I knew it, women from all over the UK were making KAWA part of their own daily rituals too.

Today, thousands of women continue to share their experiences with us, and nothing brings me more joy than seeing women prioritise themselves again.

Because when one woman wins, we all win.

A Gentle Reminder

If there is one thing I hope you take away from this article, it is this:

You matter too.

You do not need to earn rest.

You do not need to wait for life to become less busy before prioritising yourself.

And you certainly do not need to feel guilty for looking after your own wellbeing.

Self-care isn't selfish.

It is one of the greatest gifts you can give both yourself and the people you love.

Perhaps today is the perfect day to start choosing yourself again.

With love,
